Learn from two Jewish Americans, concerned by the lack of human rights offered to the Palestinian people. They will share from their experiences and perspectives on what peace & justice can look like and speak to actions we can take. With guest speakers Ruben Slomianski and Karen Redleaf Schraufnagel.
Ruben Slomianski is a Jewish American raised in a Conservative Jewish household in the 1950s, whose family members include people who were displaced or lost their lives as a result of the pogroms of the early 20th Century and the Holocaust, and also now includes family members who suffer under occupation in the West Bank. He is an artist and advocate for human rights and justice for Palestinians, and he has been active with Jewish Voice for Peace Twin Cities Chapter and MN-BDS Community for several years.
Karen Redleaf Schraufnagel is a long-time Palestine liberation activist, developing her anti-Zionist perspective as a Jewish person with roots in both the Zionist Jewish community and movements for peace & justice. She has been organizing with MN BDS Community since helping to found the organization over a decade ago, recognizing that the essence of Palestine solidarity is to respond with action to the Palestinian Civil Society’s call for BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions). Her more recent work has included leadership in the Boycott is Free Speech campaign, which is organizing to repeal the MN anti-boycott (anti-BDS) laws.
